Sept 18 & 19 – Carmen the Tango

Wednesday, September 18 – Thursday, September 19, 2019

Main Stage
Parasol Arts presents the famous story of Carmen using the sensual and passionate language of Argentine Tango. The performance tells the story of Carmen, a free spirited gypsy, Don Jose, a temperamental and fickle lieutenant, and the bullfighter Escamillo. A fight with Don Jose’s fiance, Michaela, leads to Carmen’s arrest by Captain Zuniga. In jail she seduces Don Jose and convinces him to release her. She flees to her gypsy band with Don Jose in pursuit. Destiny, a representation of Carmen’s alter ego tells Carmen’s fortune with a deck of cards, and Carmen is subsequently caught in a love triangle between Don Jose and Escamillo. In a jealous moment Don Jose stabs her and she dies in his arms caressing his face.

“Carmen the Tango” features guest artists from Argentina with Diana Cruz as Carmen, Donato Juarez as Don Jose and Marcelo Molina as Escamillo.
