“El Tango, Portrait of a Blind Poet” is a novel tango production where great literature and great music collide through Argentine Tango!
Directed by Lorita Travaglia, this dance theatre production celebrates the legacy of Jorge Luis Borges, Argentina’s literary genius and Astor Piazzolla, Argentina’s composer/bandoneon master and inventor of Nuevo Tango. Both were considered universal thinkers and masters in their own fields and collaborated in 1965 to create the album, El Tango.
Quotes taken from interviews of blind poet, Borges, narrated by veteran actor Joey Wishnia, give insight into the mind of Borges and his stories and poems come to life through the provocative Argentine Tango, expressing the emotional artistry of each story danced to the intensely evocative music of Piazzolla.
The production features spectacular dancing by international Argentine Tango masters and stars, Gustavo Naveira and Giselle Anne, the iconic Los Ocampo, (Monica Romero and Omar Ocampo, Argentine Tango and Folklore legends), Donato Juarez and Diana Cruz, Colorado Ballet’s Domenico Luciano and professional tango artists of Parasol Arts
